Signing Event: VPCC, George Mason University Celebrate Dual-Admission Partnership

Virginia Peninsula Community College and George Mason University will officially celebrate their dual-admission transfer partnership called ADVANCE with a special signing ceremony at VPCC’s Hampton Campus on Dec. 12.

The 1 p.m. event at the Peninsula Workforce Development Center (600 Butler Farm Rd.) will include remarks by VPCC President Towuanna Porter Brannon and George Mason University officials – ADVANCE Executive Director Jason Dodge and Vice Provost Janette Muir. Officials representing both institutions will also be in attendance.

The ADVANCE partnership increases access to higher education by offering a seamless transfer pathway for VPCC students to pursue bachelor’s degrees at the Fairfax County university.

In addition to the Memorandum of Understanding Signing ceremony formalizing the academic partnership, the event will highlight the many benefits of ADVANCE and its importance in fostering greater academic achievement.

Key benefits of ADVANCE:

Cost savings: Students can save on tuition by completing their associate degree at VPCC before transferring.
Seamless transfer: The program ensures that credits earned at VPCC will transfer directly toward a bachelor’s degree
Dedicated support: ADVANCE students receive personalized coaching and academic advising, providing continuous support from enrollment at VPCC to graduation at George Mason.
Career advancement opportunities: Through the university’s network of internships and co-curricular experiences, students are better prepared for post-graduation career success.

Who’s eligible?

The program is open to all in-state VPCC students with a high school diploma or GED and who maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for students with college credit. Those who are enrolled in an associate degree program at VPCC or another participating Virginia community college and have earned no more than 30 college credits when submitting the ADVANCE Declaration are also qualified. Officials advise that this does not include credits earned through AP, IB, CLEP or other exam-based credits.
